Mike Morrissey has built a unique career of leadership in the global insurance industry, holding senior roles in investment banking and research, as a private equity and listed stock investor in the industry, as well as top management and governance positions in both the life and nonlife sectors of the industry itself. As an insurance company executive, Mike has performed in such roles as Chairman, President, Chief Investment Officer, Head of Corporate Development and others. In insurance company governance, he has served as a board member of more than a dozen companies in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific, including assignments as Chairman of Audit, Finance, Compensation and Corporate Governance and Nominating committees. Mike’s current role is Chairman of Protective Life, the Fortune 500 ranked US subsidiary of Japan’s second largest life insurer, Dai Ichi Life. This follows his eleven year position as President and Chief Executive Officer of the International Insurance Society. He remains actively involved in the IIS as Special Advisor. His active involvement in the IIS now spans nearly 30 years, as he was an active corporate member for over 15 years, when he was Founder, Chairman and CEO of Firemark Investments, before he assumed the role of IIS CEO. He has also served as a board member of the St. John’s University Greenberg School of Risk Management, the Asia Pacific Risk and Insurance Association, Selective Insurance Group, and on the Steering Committee of the Insurance Development Forum, a public/private partnership of the insurance industry, the United Nations and the World Bank of which the IIS was a founding institution. Mike holds a BA from Boston College, an MBA from Dartmouth, completed the Harvard Business School Corporate Finance Program, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
