What to Do About Climate Risks - Future of Risk

What to Do About Climate Risks?

With wildfires, hurricanes and other natural disasters happening more frequently and intensifying, insurers find themselves quite literally at the center of the storm. They are not only helping individuals and communities recover from disasters but are using their data and expertise to help people stay out of harm's way and, when that isn't possible, to at least limit the damages. To explore how insurers can do even more to help people and communities be resilient in an increasingly dangerous world, ITL Editor-in-Chief Paul Carroll talked with Sean Kevelighan, president and CEO of the Insurance Information Institute, and Francis Bouchard, managing director, climate, at Marsh McLennan.

They covered:

  • Capital, canaries and catalysts -- the three ways that insurers can bring their influence to bear and promote resilience.
  • How weather is non-partisan, but... politics are getting in the way of pricing risk appropriately.
  • The "green shoots" of innovation that provide cause for optimism.
  • A call to action for all of us as individuals.
