ITL Names Leading Industry Executive as Acting CFO and Member of Advisory Board
— Scott Gillis, Formerly CFO of AIG Retirement Services, Brings Expertise on Fast-Growth Businesses to ITL’s Burgeoning Online Publishing Platform —
Menlo Park, CA — March 19, 2014 — Insurance Thought Leadership (ITL), a digital publishing platform that promotes thought leadership in insurance and risk management through insightful articles and meaningful discourse, today announced that Scott Gillis, an insurance-industry veteran CFO with an extraordinary track record, has joined the company’s advisory board and is acting CFO.
Mr. Gillis recently retired from AIG after serving for many years as CFO of AIG Retirement Services and board director of dozens of subsidiaries, where he oversaw growth of five annuity insurers and six key businesses (group, fixed and variable annuities, broker-dealer, mutual funds, affordable housing) to $240 billion in assets.
Previously, he was senior vice president and controller of SunAmerica Life Cos., where he played an essential role in its market-leading growth — 30% annually for 15 years — to $8.5 billion in revenue and $50 billion in assets, before its 1999 merger with AIG. Following the merger, he provided financial and organizational development oversight on AIG/SunAmerica’s internal boards in its insurance, annuities, asset management and broker-dealer businesses. He played critical roles in more than a dozen acquisitions.
Mr. Gillis currently serves as an independent director (audit chair, compensation committee, governance committee) for LiquidMetal Technologies, where he is valued for thoughtful insights and impartially evaluating mission-critical options, including a market strategy reset, raising capital, improving audit coordination and preparing for SOX compliance.
“I’m delighted to join ITL,” Mr. Gillis said. “The company has exceptional potential, both as a business and as a way to help the industry shape its thinking and prepare for the disruption that is coming as part of our ever-more-digital future.”
Paul Carroll, CEO and editor-in-chief of ITL, said: “We’re excited to have Scott on board, and not just because he can match resumes with anybody. He is introducing us to some important connections, has great ideas and is a wise leader. He’ll help keep us grounded even as we go through this stretch of meteoric growth.”
