Surge Mitra is a managing director in PwC’s International Tax Services practice in its national tax office in Washington DC. Surjya provides tax advice to a number of inbound and outbound insurance clients. His practice includes advice on issues such as those involving domestic and cross-border reinsurance transactions, Lloyd’s vehicles, permanent establishment, treaty and withholding tax issues, insurance subpart F income and foreign tax credits, expense allocation for insurance companies, structuring investments in offshore insurance companies, insurance product issues, segregated cell companies, insurance federal excise taxes, life settlements, life-nonlife consolidation rules, subchapter L generally, and captive insurance company issues. Mitra has worked with many domestic and foreign insurance companies, brokers and investment banks and their clients. He has authored several articles on insurance tax topics and has presented insurance tax-related topics at various seminars.
