Mark Wales is a co-founder of Galileo Platforms, an insurtech company focused on Asia. He has more than 30 years’ experience in information technology in the financial services industry, substantially in life insurance, wealth management, funds management and investment banking.
Wales has held senior executive positions in leading banks, insurance companies and consulting organizations. He has a strong track record in IT strategy and architecture and a reputation for working with businesses to create transformational IT projects that deliver real business value and results.
Wales has an ability to understand complex technologies and make them accessible to business. He demystifies IT and finds creative ways to drive change. He was a partner at Deloitte Consulting, leading financial services IT in Hong Kong. He also led Capgemini’s financial services IT strategy and architecture practice in Asia. Wales was the regional head of IT for ABN Amro, where he was responsible for building the IT operations in Asia following the global financial crisis. He was the chief information officer of ING Insurance Asia Pacific, a position he held for five years. He was responsible for coordinating IT in the group’s insurance pensions and investment management business units across 13 countries in the Asia Pacific region. He developed IT strategies for large IT organizations, including developing the IT strategies for regional insurance companies and co-leading the development of an IT strategy for one of the world’s largest global banks. He has been in Asia for 12 years and understands the nuances of delivering IT in different cultures and under different regulatory frameworks.
Wales holds a B.App.Sc. (computing science) (Hons) from New South Wales Institute of Technology. Wales is fascinated by how technology can be leveraged to deliver exceptional digital client experience at scale.
