Kay Fairchild Godfredsen became first deputy commissioner for the Iowa Insurance Division in August 2017. Most recently, she held the role of assistant general counsel at Nationwide, where she offered specialized counsel for all matters in Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Prior to her work in insurance, Godfredsen was a mortgage banker in Spencer, Iowa.
Beginning in 2016, Godfredsen became a co-chair of the Global Insurance Symposium, a conference that helps the insurance industry meet the ever-changing needs of consumers through innovative solutions. Her guidance helped lead the 2017 Global Insurance Symposium to be a resounding success both in terms of attendance and in the quality of content. Godfredsen has continued to lead as co-chair for the Global Insurance Symposium that will be held April 24-26, 2018 ,in Des Moines.
Godfredsen has been chair of the Iowa Insurance and Financial Services Education Foundation, whose sole mission is to provide scholarships to undergraduate students pursuing a career in insurance or financial services. Godfredsen has also served on the board of the Iowa Insurance Institute and several Iowa State Bar Association committees.
Godfredsen earned her undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota and her juris doctorate from Drake University.
