Andy Higgins started his career as a loss control consultant for Factory Mutual in 1986 and later worked as a resident loss control consultant in Asheville, NC, until 1993. He joined an engineering design firm in Ft. Worth, TX, as a fire protection design engineer in 1993. In 1994, Higgins joined BSW, an architectural/engineering design firm in Tulsa, OK, as director of fire protection. He served in that capacity until 1996, at which time he joined Allianz Risk Consulting.
As technical manager at Allianz, Higgins is primarily responsible for developing standards and procedures, writing technical papers, providing technical training, answering technical questions and reviewing loss-prevention reports for the Americas region. He is also responsible for conducting loss-prevention surveys, writing loss-prevention reports and reviewing plans. Higgins is considered most experienced in automobile manufacturing, textile manufacturing, pulp and paper facilities, plastic products manufacturing, wood working facilities, food industry properties, storage facilities and metal working facilities. He also serves as the windstorm expert for the Americas.
Higgins holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Clemson University. He is registered in North Carolina as a professional engineer (PE) in the discipline of fire protection. He is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA). He also co-wrote the sprinkler systems section of the professional fire protection engineers study handbook.
